Will.i.Am has opened up about working with Britney on her highly anticipated new album and revealed that he approached it in a way he has never tried before.

Speaking to Billboard about being executive producer of the exciting project, he explained that taking a personal interest was important and he spent a lot of time getting to know Britney on a one-to-one level outside of her music career:

“We start (recording) next week. Before we even start we’ve had these juicy sessions, where we’ve been bonding, building the trust and comfort. I’ve never worked like this before – not even the Peas. I wanted to just go to lunch for two months, which is totally different from how you typically do it.”

“I said, ‘Let’s talk about what you’re excited about. Let’s talk about things you’ve done in you career, what you’re happy about. Let’s talk about spending time with your kids, let’s talk about your breakup. Let’s talk about how now you’re single, how independent you might feel.’ We started talking about all that stuff. So I said, ‘do you mind if I write this down? I don’t mean to impose but I want to interview you. I need this to create a filter.’”

He admitted that by getting to know who she truly is, he will be able to make her new collection of songs fit her personality and experiences, which will make for a fantastic listening experience: “When people start bringing us stuff, I can say ‘Actually we can’t have this song. Yes, we want dance songs but that’s a little too dark.’”

“I want it to fit with the emotions. I’m really excited about that and honored that she trusts me. I don’t want to let her down. I just want to do it the way a brand would do it. They wouldn’t say, ‘Take this. Put it out.’ That’s not what you would do. You’d come up with a mood board, the logos, the font, all the other stuff.”

Black Eyed Peas superstar Will.i.Am has revealed that he has been hired as the executive producer for Britney Spears’s forthcoming new record.

He confirmed the exciting news to Rolling Stone magazine and explained that they’re a few months into the long-awaited project:

“After I did a song on ‘Femme Fatale’ – ‘Big Fat Bass’ – and then we did ‘Scream & Shout,’ she really liked the way we worked because of my approach. So they asked me to be involved in, not producing and writing every song, but to be an executive producer on the songs.”

When asked about the general direction of the album, the hitmaker was careful not to share any specifics but did confess that he spent a few months getting to know her on a more personal level so they could work who she really is into the songs that will make up the new offering:

“I was like, ‘OK, look, guys, me and Britney need to have lunch four times a month for three months before I even try to go in the studio with her,’. Because we need to talk. We need to talk about what she’s excited about in life. I gotta talk about the things that hurt her. I gotta talk about the things that make her concerned – she’s a mother. I gotta talk to her about all the things that her fans want to talk to her about. I gotta be the vehicle between her and her fans.”

“We can’t do another song about going on the dance floor. Really? Didn’t we see a bunch of Britney doing that already? Don’t we want to see something that comes from her heart?”

Britney talks about working will.i.am as a partner and friend.

We all know will is working for Album 8, so.. let the speculation begin.

Will.I.Am told fans he lunched with Britney on twitter and later posted a photo on Facebook of what fans believe is Brit’s tan purse she’s toted around lately.
